Building a Stronger Semiconductor Workforce in Europe

The European Chips Skills Academy (ECSA), an EU-funded initiative coordinated by SEMI Europe and in collaboration with DECISION Études & Conseil, proudly announces the launch of its 2025 Skills Survey. This initiative is designed to address critical skill-intelligence needs and identify emerging job roles within Europe’s semiconductor industry. The 2024 ECSA Skill Strategy report identified a critical talent shortage of 75,390 job positions in Europe, including a 52% shortage in hardware engineering roles, a 31% shortage in technician roles, and significant demand for emerging profiles such as machine learning engineers, data specialists, and system designers. Additionally, 78% of stakeholders indicated intentions to expand their workforce.

Insights from this survey will serve as the basis for the 2025 ECSA Skills Strategy Report, providing a comprehensive assessment of skill and talent gaps in the European semiconductor sector. Building upon critical findings from the Skills Strategy Report 2024—which highlighted significant shortages in roles such as hardware engineers and data specialists—the 2025 survey aims to capture precise, actionable insights from industry professionals.

The survey specifically targets senior professionals in roles such as HR leaders, Engineering executives (e.g., Heads of Design Centers), Manufacturing Directors, Research Leaders, and Professors. Their participation will directly influence strategic educational programs, targeted training initiatives, and critical policy recommendations aimed at enhancing Europe’s competitive edge in the global semiconductor industry.

Participants will also gain exclusive early access to detailed survey findings, enabling informed strategic decision-making within their organizations.

Industry professionals are encouraged to participate and help shape the future semiconductor talent landscape by responding before 28 June 2025:
