Addressing the Semiconductor Skills Gap

The European Chips Skills Academy (ECSA) participated in the A&T Fair 2025 in Turin, contributing to discussions on skills and workforce challenges in the microelectronics sector. The event, focused on innovation, technology, and industry 4.0 solutions, provided a platform for key stakeholders to address the growing need for talent in the semiconductor industry.

Highlighting the Semiconductor Talent Gap

During the fair, Irene Da Pont from ECSA presented key findings from the ECSA Skills Strategy Report 2024, developed by DECISION to quantify the European semiconductor industry’s workforce challenges. The report projects a talent gap of over 75,000 jobs by 2030, with the highest demand in technical roles, particularly:

  • Hardware engineers
  • Technicians
  • Software engineers
  • Data specialists

This presentation served as a lead-in to a keynote by MEMC Global Wafers, which addressed the evolving skills needs of the industry, followed by a panel discussion on workforce development in the Piedmont region.

ECSA’s Role in Workforce Development

To support the semiconductor industry in bridging the talent gap, ECSA has launched several initiatives, including:

  • Specialised training programmes available on the ECSA e-Learning platform
  • Hands-on activities designed to engage students and young professionals in semiconductor careers
  • Collaboration with industry, academia, and policymakers to align training with market needs
Regional Recognition and Collaboration

A special thank you to Mesap Innovation Cluster and Regione Piemonte for inviting ECSA to this event and recognizing our best practices at a regional level!
