This is the second episode of our exciting interview series, part of the ECSA Student Ambassadors Program! Following the success of the first interview, where we delved into the experiences of a leading professional in the semiconductor industry, we’re back with another inspiring conversation.

In our second interview, ECSA Student Ambassador Dean, an Electronic Engineering student at King’s College, speaks with Dominik Zupan, a PhD candidate at TUGraz. This conversation takes you behind the scenes of academic research, shedding light on the challenges, opportunities and rewards of a career in academia. Dive into Dominik’s journey as a semiconductor researcher and discover the experiences that shaped his path! You can read Dean’s reflections and the full interview transcript below.

Through Dean’s eyes

“I’ve always wondered how people became involved in the microelectronics industry. Was it through exposure to leading tech companies like NVIDIA, or was it a coincidence? Dominik was able to answer this question through a series of storytelling, from his initial introduction to microelectronics at 14 years old to his continuing research in making analog integrated-circuits more robust against EMI. Illustrating the vast microelectronics landscape, Dominik introduced the endless possibilities young students can pursue when stepping into this industry such as conducting groundbreaking research shaping the next consumer products or leading efforts to improve sustainability in microelectronics manufacturing. Not only did he get me excited about microelectronics, but he also provided prudent advice on becoming successful in the industry: always being curious and motivated to solve problems. The interview may have lasted an hour, but his stories and advice will continue to impact me as I begin my journey into the microelectronics industry.”
